About the Founder Director
Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati
A Visionary Leader
Fr. VM Thomas SDB is the visionary founder of Don Bosco Institute (DBI) and Don Bosco Institute of Management (DBIM), Guwahati. A Salesian priest with a deep commitment to the youth of Northeast India, he established the institute on the bedrock of Don Bosco's educational philosophy — love, reason, and religion.
As Head of the DBYES NGO, he has been facilitating NGO attachment programmes of IAS probationers from LBSAA Mussoorie to Northeast India — bridging the gap between governance and grassroots realities.
His leadership saw the institute grow from a small vocational training centre to a full-fledged educational campus offering courses ranging from computer applications and aviation to beauty therapy and music.
Fr. VM Thomas also hosted the peace initiative programmes in the region and was a Convenor of Peace Initiative, organising several peace-promoting programmes across Assam and the Northeast.
He was instrumental in establishing the Bosco Barefoot College at Boko — a new concept in non-formal education that provided skills to rural youth who could not access mainstream schooling.
Under his visionary leadership, Don Bosco Institute won the title of "Best B-School in the Region" within six months of its launching — a testament to his commitment to academic excellence.
The institute's unique combination of vocational, professional, and value-based education is Fr. VM Thomas's enduring legacy to the youth of Northeast India.
